We offer tailor made river and wilderness camping expeditions for small groups of adventurous clients, interested in nature, wildlife photography, bird watching, sports fishing and for researchers or camera crews.
These trips are for those willing to sacrifice some of the “luxuries and comforts” of home in exchange for a true wilderness experience, greater chances of wildlife sightings and better fishing. So if you require air conditioning, comfy beds, iced drinks, hot showers, flush toilets and room service, there is no need to read further …
However having said that, camping conditions although basic are comfortable. We construct tarpaulin camps at suitable locations along the river and sleep in hammocks with mosquito nets, drifting off to the sounds of the night forest and awakening to the avian dawn chorus and the eerie calls of howler monkeys.
Bathing is done in the cool refreshing waters of the river along with the electric eels and piranhas (don’t worry, it is safe… the stories you have heard are greatly exaggerated!) and the toilet is a pit latrine dug at each camp.
The food is simple, but good and plentiful, seasoned by the fireside or cooked over a camp stove; the dry goods supplemented with fresh fish caught in the river or occasionally game.
Travel between camp sites is via boat, and we stop at waterfalls, known wildlife ‘hotspots” areas of interest and fishing holes.
Day to day activities can be tailored for specific interests, but for the most part, guests walk on forest trails, birding, searching for wildlife, and learning about the forest from your guides or go on quiet river drifts at optimum times for wildlife viewing. For those really keen nature lovers we also offer night drifts (spotlighting) on the river or walks on forest trails in search of nocturnal wildlife.
Fishing in most of the rivers is excellent and diverse and guests have an opportunity to experience several different styles of fishing including hand lining, night fishing, fly fishing, spin fishing, even fishing with bow and arrow. Fly and spin fishing guests need to bring along their own rods and tackle.
Your guides consists of Ashley Holland and a small crew of local Amerindian staff who assist with boats, guiding, cooking camp construction, etc and of course in sharing their stories, knowledge and showing you a little of our lifestyle.
We invite you as our guest, not just our client, to show you the wilderness in its raw form, no roads, no lodges no other tourists, just us, the river, the forest.
We want to show you wildlife that’s just as surprised to see us as you it, catch fish that’s never been caught and released before, to tell you stories of the forest, its people and it’s wildlife and for you to go home feeling happy and with a greater appreciation of nature.…….for us to remember you as friends, your trip with fondness and to have a sense of satisfaction in having shown you a little piece of “our world”.
